Jingqin Expressway Smart Traffic Weather Stations Enhance Road Safety Services
Recently, Sun Weather participated in the construction of a smart traffic meteorological monitoring system along the Jingqin Expressway (G1), helping improve travel safety and highway operation management through real-time environmental data services.

Jingqin Expressway is an important transport corridor connecting Beijing, Qinhuangdao, Shenyang, and Northeast China, with a total length of about 264 km. To support safe and efficient operation, a large-scale expressway weather monitoring and early-warning system has been deployed along the route.

The project integrates dozens of highway weather monitoring stations that automatically measure key parameters, including visibility, wind direction and speed, air temperature, humidity, rainfall, and road surface conditions such as surface temperature, dryness/wetness, snow, ice, and ice thickness. All monitoring data is transmitted in real time to the control center to support traffic management decisions. Under severe or extreme weather conditions, the system can issue timely alerts and notify operators and drivers through multiple channels, improving road safety.
The monitoring equipment uses certified sensors and advanced road-condition detection technology based on spectral analysis to accurately measure water, ice, and snow on the pavement. The system supports high-precision snow and ice thickness detection and meets national highway meteorological monitoring standards.
Supporting software and data platforms are deployed together with the field stations, enabling unified standards, data-driven analysis, and scalable application across more expressway sections.
