PV Meteorological Station Deployed in Desert Solar Farm for Accurate Monitoring and Stable Operation
In the desert region of western Ningxia, China, large-scale photovoltaic arrays extend across the landscape, forming one of the region’s key renewable energy bases. To ensure accurate environmental data and stable plant operation, Sun Weather has deployed a photovoltaic meteorological station on site, providing continuous, high-precision weather and radiation monitoring for the solar farm.

As shown at the project site, the PV meteorological station adopts an integrated structural design with a reinforced mounting platform and multi-sensor configuration. The system is equipped with solar radiation sensors, wind speed and wind direction sensors, ambient temperature and humidity probes, and other meteorological instruments. A dedicated solar power supply module and battery system enable long-term off-grid operation, which is especially suitable for remote desert environments.

The station performs real-time monitoring of key parameters including global solar radiation, wind conditions, temperature, and humidity. These data are transmitted to the remote monitoring platform through wireless communication, supporting solar resource assessment, power generation forecasting, and operational efficiency analysis. By correlating on-site meteorological data with PV output, operators can better optimize dispatch strategies and reduce uncertainty caused by weather variability.
Designed for harsh outdoor conditions, the system features corrosion-resistant structures and stable electronic control units, allowing reliable operation under strong sunlight, sand, wind, and large day-night temperature differences. With unattended automatic operation and high measurement accuracy, the PV meteorological station meets grid-connection testing and long-term operation requirements for photovoltaic power plants.
Sun Weather’s PV meteorological solutions are widely used in utility-scale solar bases and distributed PV projects, providing dependable environmental data support for safe, efficient, and intelligent solar power generation.
