Automatic Solar Photometer Deployed at Northwest A&F University for Atmospheric Radiation Research

Recently, Jinzhou Sunshine Meteorological Technology Co., Ltd. (SunWeather) successfully installed and commissioned a TBS-4 Fully Automatic Solar Photometer at Northwest A&F University, supporting its atmospheric radiation observation and climate research programs. The system passed on-site testing and acceptance smoothly and received positive feedback from the research team.

As shown in the field installation images, the solar photometer is mounted on a stable outdoor observation platform and powered by an independent solar energy system, ensuring continuous operation in all weather conditions. The equipment integrates a high-precision automatic sun-tracking mechanism, radiation sensors, control modules, and wireless data transmission units, enabling unattended, long-term observations.

The TBS-4 solar photometer is a high-accuracy instrument for measuring atmospheric aerosols and solar radiation, capable of monitoring direct solar radiation across multiple wavelength bands. In addition, it measures global radiation, diffuse radiation, sunshine duration, solar elevation angle, and atmospheric aerosol optical depth. With built-in GPS positioning and automatic tracking, the system ensures precise alignment and real-time data acquisition throughout the day.

Before the development of this instrument, many domestic research institutions relied heavily on imported solar photometers to conduct atmospheric and climate studies. Leveraging over 40 years of experience in solar radiation instrument development, Jinzhou Sunshine independently developed the TBS-4 series and obtained national patents in 2016, effectively filling a key technological gap in China’s atmospheric radiation and aerosol monitoring field.

The deployment at Northwest A&F University demonstrates the TBS-4’s reliability, accuracy, and suitability for academic research. It provides high-quality observational data for studies on climate change, atmospheric composition, radiation balance, and environmental monitoring, while also offering a cost-effective domestic alternative to imported equipment.
